The Environmentally Friendly Gasoline Hybrid Car

by Joey Lee

Simply being aware of the green revolution does not make us anymore environmentally friendly. In fact, it makes one look and feel hypocritical to zip around town in our gasoline guzzlers, talking about being environmentally friendly and reducing toxic fuel emissions into the air!

It is hence a happy phenomenon that an increasing number of people are now giving up their gas-guzzling conventional cars and trading in for Hybrid Cars, many of which are gasoline hybrid cars. And this is despite the fact that such hybrid cars could cost more than the conventional cars currently in the market.

Although gasoline hybrid cars do retail at a higher price than the conventional cars, they are in fact cheaper over the long run. Due to the constantly increasing price of gasoline, many people tend to purchase hybrid cars in order to save money on gasoline. It is not impossible to cut fuel consumption by 50% compared to conventional cars, with some Hybrid car models achieving 50 miles per gallon for urban driving. Multiply this savings by months, and then over the years too… You get the idea.

Gasoline Hybrid cars use both gasoline and electricity. Hybrid cars work by utilizing both the gasoline-powered engine and the electric motor to run the car. When the car is running idle or when it is not in motion but the engine is running, it automatically switches off the gasoline engine and the car will run on electric power. When you apply pressure to the accelerator, the hybrid car automatically turns on the gas engine again. This helps you to save much gasoline and money especially when you need to contend with daily rituals of stop and go traffic. And when the car is in motion, the electric motor and the gasoline engine will share the propulsion.

And Hybrid technology has advanced to the extent that the latest generation of hybrid cars do not need to be plugged in like electric cars do for recharging. The intelligent hybrid car batteries are recharged when the car itself is running or when the car is braking.

The Hybrid Car - The Best Environment's Friend
Gasoline-electric cars or hybrid cars run on clean energy and it has been proven that the hybrid cars emit far lower toxic fumes than conventional cars. In fact, toxic fuel emissions can be reduced from 25% to 90%, when comparing hybrid cars to conventional gas-powered vehicles.

Hybrid cars are aerodynamically designed, usually only need comparatively smaller gasoline engines and electric motors, hence is much more silent than conventional cars.

So the hybrid scores double wins at being environmentally friendly, with reducing both air and noise pollution.

More Pocket Money for That Rainy Day
US tax incentives for hybrid car buyers is another bonus for hybrid car swappers. Depending on which hybrid car you choose, you will be entitled to a certain amount of tax incentives. What's more, this is recurring over an extended few years too.

Settling Down With A Hybrid Car - Do You Really Have Anything To Lose?
Firstly, you save on the mileage or rather, the miles per gallon, then you get tax rebates over a span of not one year but a few years and you even get to contribute positively to the green revolution. The key is to get you out of that comfort zone and start relearning about hybrid cars.

Hydrogen Gas Saver: Saving Money With Hydrogen Gas Saver Devices

by Michael Lee

Hydrogen gas saver devices have become popular nowadays. The reason is that it is more important than ever to save money currently, as the economy is in the worst position that it has been in for a very long time.

Even the people who normally never worry or care about saving money or buying a bargain brand, are now thinking twice before they make purchases or investments. It is quite a phenomenon, and gasoline plays a major role in it all. That is where the hydrogen gas saver comes into play.

With gas prices soaring higher than ever, it makes everything go up in price, because everything needs to be shipped, delivered and transported which all takes gasoline to make happen.

There have been many devices over the years that have claimed to convert a car or truck to run solely on water, and many of them have either been a hoax altogether, or just a failed attempt at building a hydrogen gas saver.

What is a Hydrogen Gas Saver?

A hydrogen gas saver is a device that can be built out of regular, everyday materials, and which converts water into its hydrogen gas form. This hydrogen gas is also known as HHO gas.

Hydrogen gas or HHO gas, is extremely combustible. What's perfect about this, is that cars, trucks, and many other modes of transportation run on internal combustion engines.

That means that hydrogen gas can be used to run a car, truck, SUV, etc. Although it is powerful enough to run a car or truck on its own, it would be far too expensive and almost impossible to convert your car to run on hydrogen gas only. That is why they call it a "hydrogen gas saver" device.

The device, once built, can be installed on to a car's engine (or truck, SUV, etc.), and then combines the power of hydrogen gas, along with the car's regular gasoline to create enormous gas mileage savings.

In a sense, the car becomes a hybrid of it's own, running on both water and gas. People have reported (and proved) results such as doubling and even tripling their gas mileage when using a properly built hydrogen gas saver device.

Right now, it doesn't matter who you are, money is tight and the economy is suffering. Gas prices are through the roof and nobody should have to pay three and a half dollars for a gallon of gas. Well, people don't really have a choice, and that is why so many thousands of people are resorting to the use and implementation of hydrogen gas saver devices.

Hydrogen gas saver can be built at home, with materials that can be gathered for under $200 from local stores. All it takes is getting the materials and following instructions to get it done, and it is well worth the process -- which isn't even that tedious.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid: 700 Mile City Range, Class Leading Fuel Economy

by Matthew C. Keegan

There is good news for the family who wants a high quality sedan offering superior fuel economy: the soon to debut 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid promises to deliver all that and more when it goes on sale in 2009. The new hybrid Fusion is a class leading sedan with an impressive 700 mile city driving range, a car that will run on pure electric power for 47 miles.

First introduced in 2005 along with its Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr (now MKZ) stablemates, the Ford Fusion has demonstrated that the automaker can produce a high quality, affordable sedan that customers want. Beginning in 2009, the next generation of the Fusion will be released, a sedan with a new engine and transmission along with a special model not previously offered: the Ford Fusion Hybrid.

The hybrid technology developed by Ford for the sedans is new and will eventually be expanded to the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner, Ford's popular compact SUVs which were the first models sold by Ford featuring this cutting edge technology.

For the 2010 models, the Fusion and Milan hybrids will offer the following advantages:

* Superior city driving fuel economy with Ford stating that it will beat the Toyota Camry Hybrid by 5 mpg. * Extended city range driving of 700 miles. * An ability to run on pure electric power for the first 47 miles.

In addition, to help drivers get maximum fuel economy, Ford is including SmartGauge, an in-dash device that will instruct drivers when to shift and what other steps to take to improve mileage. Specifically, Ford says that the SmartGauge with EcoDrive will help motorists in four areas:

-- Inform: Fuel level and battery charge status -- Enlighten: Adds electric vehicle mode indicator and tachometer -- Engage: Adds engine output power and battery output power -- Empower: Adds power to wheels, engine pull-up threshold and accessory power consumption.

For 2010, Fusion and Milan will offer Ford's all-new Duratec 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 175 horsepower; an enhanced 3.0-liter V-6 with 19 more horsepower than its predecessor; and a 3.5-liter V-6 that pumps out 263 horsepower on the Fusion Sport model.

Fusion models equipped with the 2.5-liter I-4 engine are expected to deliver at least 3 mpg better on the highway than the Honda Accord and 2 mpg better than the Toyota Camry.

All are paired with six-speed transmissions for up to a 10 percent fuel economy improvement and a host of other industry-first technologies aimed at improving performance while gaining fuel economy.

Ford will introduce its new hybrids at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2008 with these models hitting dealer showrooms in early 2009. With class leading fuel economy, an extended city range, and a terrific driving experience, the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid could be just the cars consumers need to ensure that "pain at the pump" is a thing of the past.

Making Biodiesel at Home - Can I Use Biodiesel in my Car?

by Stephen Marsh

I was recently asked by a friend about a Biodiesel conversion for running the fuel in his car. My answer to him was "Drive past the diesel pump and pull up next to the Biodiesel pump. You can use Biodiesel in almost any diesel engine on the planet without modification."

That being said, there are a few things you need to be aware of. Check first to make sure that your vehicle manufacturer doesn't prohibit the use of Biodiesel. I don't know of any that do, but I have been told that Audi's newer diesels are not suppose to use Biodiesel. Why is beyond me.

My friend has been using almost pure Biodiesel in his Mercedes 240D for over two years with no concerns. Somethings that he did upfront you may want to do and they make sense if you want to guarantee you'll have no problems.

First, he changed out his fuel filter after the first two full tanks and again about three months later. The reason he did this is because Biodiesel is a better solvent than petroleum diesel. Accumulations of sludge and gunk in your fuel system tend to accumulate in your fuel lines and in your engine. The Biodiesel will dissolve them and this can clog your filters. A fuel filter or two is not a bad price to pay for a cleaner engine! And by the way, there are no special "biodiesel filters".

Second, he replaced all the rubber fuel line sections with Viton. This isn't a consideration in vehicles made since the early nineties but again, a small price to pay if you have an older vehicle. The reason for this is that natural rubber tends to degrade in the presence of Biodiesel and heat. The synthetic 'rubber' used in modern vehicles is unaffected.

Finally, during the colder months you will probably want to run a mixture of petroeum diesel and Biodiesel. Biodiesel gels at higher temperatures than regular diesel and in extremely cold weather this could cause starting and drivability problems. If you purchase your Biodiesel it will usually already be blended for your weather, but if you're burning home made Biodiesel you may need to add a percentage of conventional diesel during the colder months. How much will have to be determined by tial and error on your part.

Can I use biodiesel in my car? The answer is certainly!

Hydrogen Fuel Cars Are a Reality

by Martin Applebaum

Hydrogen fuel is ideal in many ways. No wonder, so much of research has been made towards developing Hydrogen fuel cars. One of the main reasons is that Hydrogen is capable of delivering a good amount of energy. It burns clean, the car runs better, and the engine enjoys longevity. However, it is not possible to run a car only on hydrogen.

The best way to build a hydrogen fuel car is to come up with a hydrogen gasoline hybrid. Here, you would be burning a bit of hydrogen in conjunction with gasoline in order to enhance the fuel efficiency of the car. This will also help you to decrease the overall amount of pollution created with the gasoline.

It is true that hydrogen cannot be stored as it can explode when under wrong circumstances. Hence, there is research going on to develop special tanks constructed of advanced materials to store a good amount of it safely and in a compact manner.

There are several benefits of using Hydrogen fuel cars. Here are some of the benefits you can really enjoy:

Enhanced fuel efficiency:

When you burn hydrogen in conjunction with gasoline, you can actually increase the overall efficiency of your car's engine. These have been reports coming in from latest guides claiming to provide more than 60 per cent increase in mileage. Now, getting 60% more miles each gallon from your car is really something.

Cleaner Exhaust:

Hydrogen burns cleanly. This in turn, increases the mileage of your car and the amount of pollution produced is far less. Now, what more one would want when he or she gets more mileage, less of pollution and greater efficiency? No wonder Hydrogen fuel cars are gathering more and more popularity on a daily basis?

Lower fuel costs:

This is the best benefit one can enjoy via using Hydrogen fuel cars. These days, when prices for fuel are skyrocketing, hydrogen powered cars are a great source of relief. With these wonder cars, you can enjoy a significantly increased mileage. This, in turn means super savings on fuel. These savings on fuel will easily pay you a lot of money for the cost of the modifications. This in turn, facilitates your car to burn hydrogen and you save a lot of money in a short spam of time.

With so many benefits of using Hydrogen fuel cars, conversion of gasoline cars into Hydrogen fuel cars is speeding up. There are several cost effective guides available readily to the public. These inexpensive guides are efficient and informative enough to convert a regular car into a hydrogen fuel car.

Many people across the globe have purchased these guides and converted their vehicles into hydrogen fuel cars and trucks.

Change Your Car to Electricity

by David Richard

I think by now most people have heard of "Global Warming". We are somewhat familiar with the term. Unfortunately though it doesn't have a big impact on our lives, or so we think. People are too preoccupied with their own immediate concerns and day to day problems. Some of us might even be familiar with "receding glaciers" "stranded polar bears" or the name Al Gore, "but it doesn't really affect me".

Too bad people don't think more in terms of being a team player, and not just among us humans, but animals, plants, all of nature. Despite all our huge successes as a species, if we end up destroying our planet, we will ultimately be judged as a species that failed and failed big time! Since we should have know better, we'll be rated dumber than the dinosaur. There are some people that do care, and there is plenty of information on the subject. Tips & Techniques on what we can do to help fight GW. One of the easiest if not THE easiest tip I'm aware of that surprisingly is not mentioned enough is Stop Idling Your Car. Think of it folks it doesn't get much easier than turning a key. You see people everyday leaving their car with the engine running while they just pick something up from the grocery store, or just go to the bank machine, or just pick up their dry cleaning, or just pick up the pizza they ordered, or just …etc etc. Everyone seems to think "Oh come on, what's my one little car going to do when there are billions of them all over the planet"? This is our big mistake right here folks, in that way of thinking. Collectively we created Global Warming, collectively we need to solve it. We need signs, lots and lots of signs that say "This is an idle free zone" There no reason why every truck loading dock in the world shouldn't be an idle free zone.

If you want to check out something fun, and very smart……

Avoiding Insolvency, Tesla Motors Borrows $40 Million

by Matthew C. Keegan

America's all-electric car maker - Tesla Motors - has been wowing fans ever since its small two seat sports car finally rolled off a British assembly line earlier this summer. Lots of delays pushed back the car's release, resulting in Tesla bleeding through more cash than it had expected to before production got going.

As a result of the delays, Tesla's financial picture suddenly became very bleak as cash reserves dwindled to below ten million dollars, a small amount of money on hand even for a tiny automaker. Talk that the company would seek bankruptcy protection began to surface, but those fears have now been allayed thanks to new funding that has become available.

Prior to its most recent announcement, Tesla Motors had received cash injections of $145 million from private investors including tens of millions of dollars contributed by Elon Musk who is the company's chairman and chief executive officer. Indeed, it was Musk and a team of private investors who coughed up the most recent forty million dollars which should be enough money to keep the car company going for the long run.

So far, just fifty Tesla Roadsters have been produced, an all-electric sports car with a phenomenal zero to sixty speed of just 3.5 seconds. Priced at $109,000, the Roadster has some 1200 buyers on its waiting list, people who have put down deposits for the rare sports car.

Tesla says that the new funding will be used to speed up Roadster production while freeing up funding for a second vehicle, the S Model. The "S" is a four door sedan that the company plans to build at a new factory being assembled near San Jose, California. That car was to make its debut near the end of 2010, but production isn't likely to begin much before summer 2011.

The Tesla Roadster is the first of what will likely become several electric cars produced by a variety of manufacturers worldwide. Fisker Automotive has a sedan in progress, while General Motors will be producing the Chevrolet Volt, a small sedan that should be ready late 2010. Toyota, Nissan, and Chrysler each have several models in the planning and/or production pipeline, while other manufacturers including BMW are currently testing pre-production models of their own.

Run Car On Water - How To Build A DIY Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car

by James Lee

Are you looking to build a hydrogen fuel cell to run a your car on water? Here are some basic information you can use to build your own hydrogen fuel cell to power your car on water and increase fuel efficiency.

To begin with, run your car on water is not about adding water to the gas tank and driving your car completely on water. This kind of water fuel combination won't mix and will result in serious damages to your car. Instead the secret to running your car on water lies in installing a "hydregen fuel cell kit" that hooks directly onto your car's engine. The water in the kit is then broken down into two components namely oxygen and hydrogen through the process of electrolysis. The oxygen and hydrogen is then converted to HHO or Brown's Gas which is then used as fuel for cars. With a hydrgen fuel cell, fuel consumption is drastically reduced and hence the increase in mileage.

Building The Hydrogen Fuel Cell

It is not that much difficult to build a hydrogen fuel cell than most public think. In fact, the materials needed to build a homemade hydrogen fuel cell can be easily found in any of your local hardware store and will cost just around $80 to $300 - a really low investment if you consider the long-term gas and green tax savings you will gain.

In order to convert your car from gas guzzler to gas conserver, the pasrts you will need are baking soda, a quart size glass jar, electrical wires to attach to the car battery, a fuse that goes between the starter and the water jar, plus some cpvc pipes, nut and bolts. The building and fitting of the water fuel cell to your specific car should take only a few hours.

As you already know that as the world oil prices rise and with no immediate relief from oil companies or the government in sight, many ordinary folks have already started building their own water car in an effort to improve and squeeze every possible percent of fuel efficiency out of their vehicle because they know that even small improvements can have a big benefit to their bottom line.

Honda vs Toyota: A Big Battle for number one

by Alan

Toyota's Camry and Honda's Accord are the two top selling passenger cars sold in the US. Who will be number one this year? The battle lines are drawn and consumers have a chance to shape the outcome. Let's take a look at what makes these cars so popular with American drivers.

Up until ten years ago, American cars dominated the marketplace with offerings from Ford or Chevrolet regularly securing the top spot. A series of bland and poorly made models from the domestic giants gave foreign car makers a unique opportunity to wrest control of the passenger car market. Since then the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord have been battling for the top spot with American models coming in a distant third.

Both the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are noted for high quality, affordability, refinement, and durability. The Accord is the sleeker of the two, although the Camry Solara, the coupe version of the Toyota, is sportier than its sedan stable mate.

Honda Accord: For 2006 the Accord gets a significant make over. Redone from the ground up, the Accord's exterior is even sleeker than before and its interior has been refreshed as well with a new instrument panel being the key factor in the updated cabin. The base Accord features a 2.4L i-VTEC 4 cylinder engine mated to a 5 speed transmission. Double wishbone suspension, front and side impact airbags, and ABS are some of the standard options for the Accord. Base models start at $18,225 with fully loaded Accords retailing well into the high 20s.

Toyota Camry: The 2006 Camry comes equipped with a 2.4L 16 valve DOHC 4 cylinder engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission. Power windows, air conditioning, AM/FM/CD Player with 6 speakers, are some of the important standard features on the Camry. Base MSRP is $18,445 with fully loaded Camrys retailing as high as the mid 20s. The Camry was last restyled in 2002.

Sales totals thus far this year suggest that the battle is very tight once again with perhaps only a few thousand sales ultimately separating the two models. With an updated Accord already in the mix, Honda has the best chance of winning this year's battle.

The Exhilarating Narrative of the Classic Mustangs, How the Tradition Started

by Eric Buck

For many automotive lovers, the Mustang is deemed to be one of the best. But how did this celebrated automobile really come to be? Well, it all began back in spring of 1964. Lee Iacocca, the General Manager of Ford Motor Company, always thought of making a medium sized sports car and proclaiming it as the next big thing in street wars. But Ford decided to go all the way and conceive a brand new brand of automobile. What was born of Iacocca’s initial thought is the “Pony Car”. It was planned, at first, as a two-seater modeled after the European-style, but a business-minded Iacocca realized that the future of this new model depended on volume sales. Thus the design was enhanced further and the Ford Mustang was modeled after the Falcon, which was compact in design, so that assembly overhead could be lowered. This new vehicle was first named P-51, the namesake of the infamous fighter plane. However, many comparisons were made to the Mustang, a breed of equine and it ultimately became both logo and theme to the cars. True to its namesake, the Mustang sold 22,000 units on the very first day of it's introduction and went on to sell a million more within the next few years thus gaining the attention of both the industry and car fanatics during that time.

By the time 1966 rolled around, the Mustang got tweaked a bit. They modified the design of the instrument panel to differentiate the Mustang from the Falcon. The 260 cubic inch displacement V8 was also replaced with 2 and 4 barrel types of the 289 cid V8. The next year, a 100 % face lift took place in the design of the Mustang, these changes include a bulkier sheet metal below its midsection, a meaner grille, a hollow tail panel, and a fastback roof line for the fastback design of the vehicle’s body. These 1967 Shelby’s were more refined in terms of design. There was a greater focus on luxury equipment options. The 1967 Shelby’s were the last to be designed by the Shelby-American Company. Every model subsequent were manufactured by Ford with minimal involvement for Shelby. In 1968, the Mustang underwent some more modifications. The grille was changed into something simpler and its 427 engines were scaled back but even still, they were more than able to get people’s attention when motoring down the avenues. Also in the same year Ford introduced what was to be their greatest engine ever. The 428 Cobra Jet, as it was called, was rumored to have an output of 410 bhp. The Shelby’s were still in production and a new design, a convertible, was also made available. This convertible design was called the Shelby Cobra.

Through the following years of 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 more modifications were done to the first Mustang blueprint. In 1969, the Shelby’s that were available became more oriented to being a luxury car. The Boss Mustangs were also introduced the same year. These Boss Mustangs were made to qualify for the NASCAR races. By 1970, people still preferred the Cobra engine to the other engines that were coming out during that time. By 1971, Ford’s decades of being a complete performance vehicle were drawing to a close. This would also be the only year that Ford’s performance was considered to be declining. In 1973, several blunders and changes in the rules required changes to the design of the Mustang as well. This time, what used to be a vehicle oriented for performance introduced a new model, the Mustang II, with no claims to anything as wonderful as what its predecessors had done.

History Of Ferrari

by Naomi West

Enzo Ferari a race car enthusiast in 1929 created Scuderia Ferrari - an Italian company - dedicated to sponsoring amateur drivers and invent races cars. Scuderia is an Italian word and means "stable", but Scuderia Ferrari is sometime also translated as Team Ferrari.

In the beginning drivers for Alfa Romeo were sponsored by Scuderia Ferrari and also before the race Scuderia would prepare the cars for them. Around 1938 Enzo was employed officially by Alfa Romeo. In 1940 he left his job at Alfa Romeo, after finding out about their plans to take over his beloved company.

Because of a contract with Alfa Romeo, Enzo Ferrari was restricted from being involved with racing for many years. During this restricted time Enzo Ferrari changed Scuderia Ferrari into "Auto Avio Costruzioni Ferrari" and produced aircraft accessories.

Also during his restricted time Enzo made the Tipo 815 a race car that would makes its debut at the Mille Miglia race in 1940, the race was hindered by WWII. One year after Enzo Ferrari moved his factory to Maranello in Italy of 1943 it was bombed. Enzo Ferrari waited till after WWII to rebuild his factory. It was during this time that he began to make street cars.

The first street car Ferrari made was the 125 S Ferrari which he built in 1947. But Enzo Ferrari's true passion was to make race cars. He admitted that the Ferrari street cars were made only to fund Scuderia Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari's distaste for the Ferrari street car customers was well known because they only bought them to show off as their status symbols.

Over time the Ferrari street cars became famous through their performance and style. The famous style of the Ferrari can be accredited to Pininfarina, Vignale, Bertone, Touring, Scagliette, and Ghia, which are some of the design houses Ferrari has worked with.

Rat Rods - The Old School Hot Rods

by D Grammer

Rat Rods are typically interpreted to be the Hot Rods kids build during the 1930s - 1950s, using modern parts, and originality. Rat Rod designs and styles take quirky shapes from any era of car and use these shapes to hopefully build a radically designed car. Rat rods are an existence, it's a way to go overboard, but not be caught in keeping your car pretty. In most cases the uglier the better. Rat rods are big, traditional street rods are bigger, and muscle cars are ridiculously out of sight. But there's still the '33 Ford roadster, the essence of a hot rod and a car that has been done every which way including Sunday.

Rat rods are for individuals who want to experiment with engine performance and other features while keeping costs to the bare minimum. Rat Rods are one of the most popular concepts going these days. Rat rods are for fun! Rat rods come in many flavors: coupes, t-buckets, pickups and even newer vehicles are being converted into "unfinished" rat rod style cars.

There's no concern for original or authentic parts or trim, and they're often dotted and splotched with patches of primer -- because hey, a car doesn't need paint to be driven, right? Rat Rods are meant to loosely imitate in form and function, the "Traditional" Hot Rods of the era. Biker, Greaser, Rockabilly, and punk culture is often credited as influence that shapes of Rat Rodding. Rat rods are inexpensive cars put together by street rodders who don't want to spend a fortune on fancy design. Rat rodders spend little money, but their cars turn many heads.

Rat rods are a throw back to the days when most of us couldn't afford to have a really nice car, so instead of spending money on the appearance, the drive train (motor, tranie, rear end) received the attention. I think maybe wistfulness is the driving force behind the old car craze. Rat rods are hot-rods that looks unfinished and/or old and/or abused and they are often painted only with primer instead of glossy paint like hot-rods usually are. I feel these cars are like punk-rock was/is for the music industry. Rat rods are often powered by flatheads, straight sixes, straight fours and other relatively uncommon engines such as those made by Cadillac and Studebaker.

Car Warranties, Types and Considerations

by Greg Chapman

When deciding which car to buy, you may ask yourself whether you should buy an extended warranty or a car that comes with a warranty. To start, educate yourself on warranties. Not every new car warranty is created equally. Some will cover all the non-wear items on the car up to only three years or 36,000 miles. Others will cover repairs all the way up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. The strength of the coverage that is included will help you decide whether to buy an extended auto warranty.

A typical new car warranty has two parts: the "bumper to bumper" warranty, which covers everything except the "wear" items such as brakes and tires; and the power train warranty that covers all the parts that make the car move, such as the engine and transmission.

An extended auto warranty is often purchased to prolong the coverage of the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Most people are familiar with the extended warranty that is sold at dealerships. This is sometimes called a "factory warranty" because factory-trained technicians perform the required work on the car. There are also "third-party" warranties, which can save consumers money but are generally less convenient to use. Many third-party warranties require out-of-pocket payment for repairs before reimbursement.

In deciding whether an extended warranty is right for you, and in selecting the best plan for your needs, you'll need to ask yourself the following questions:

* To what extent is your vehicle already under warranty, and is this coverage in sync with how long you anticipate owning it? If the car you've just bought is new, take a close look at its factory warranty before making an extended warranty decision. If, for example, the vehicle has a factory warranty of three years or 36,000 miles, and you plan on keeping it for two or three years--with an anticipated annual mileage of about 10,000--then an extended warranty makes little sense, since you'll likely be covered under the manufacturer's plan. However, if you plan on keeping the car long after the factory warranty expires, an extended auto warranty is worth considering. If the car you've just purchased is used, you'll need to ascertain if there is warranty coverage from the dealership (coverage periods may range from as little as a month to up to a year, or more).

If you're buying a late-model used vehicle, it's possible that the vehicle's original factory warranty is still in effect (this will be dependent on how many miles the car has under its tires, and on how much time has passed since it was originally titled). Some manufacturers also offer "certified used" programs that extend original factory warranty terms on pre-owned vehicles. If the car isn't under warranty, or if you plan on keeping it past its warranty's expiration, an extended warranty makes sense.

* What's the reliability record of the model you're purchasing? Take a look at the reliability history of the model you're buying. Though this is by no means a fail-safe way of predicting what your repair bill will look like, it does give you an idea of what you may be in for service-wise; bear this information in mind when making a warranty decision.

* Who is behind the warranty that you're considering? An extended auto warranty may be backed by an independent warranty company (these are known as aftermarket warranties) or by the covered vehicle's manufacturer. Knowing who will be underwriting your policy can give you insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the contract you're considering. Manufacturer-backed warranties score very highly when it comes to ease of use. However, aftermarket warranties are often cheaper. (If you opt to purchase an aftermarket warranty, take a look at how the company's financial strength has been rated by A.M. Best and/or Standard & Poor's; this will give you an indication as to its ability to pay your claim. Your safest bet is to choose a company that has a minimum "A" rating with Standard & Poor's, and/or a minimum "A" or "A-" rating with A.M. Best.)

* What's the nature of its deductible? Fully investigate a policy's deductible before signing on the dotted line. Consider not only its amount, but also whether it's per visit or per repair. With a per visit deductible, each visit to the shop will run you a fixed amount, regardless of how many parts are repaired; a per repair deductible applies to each serviced part. What sounds like a minor difference may, under certain circumstances, have a major impact on your wallet. If, for example, you've got a $100 per repair deductible and you take your car in to get the air conditioner, fuel pump and alternator serviced, you'll be out $300; had you opted for a per visit deductible, those repairs would only have cost you $100. Charier still is a $0 deductible policy. You will have to pay extra for this, but if your circumstances become such that you have to take your car in frequently, you'll find that this policy more than pays for itself.

* Is the warranty transferable? Some extended warranties end when the person who bought the warranty sells the car. A warranty that allows you to transfer it to a new buyer is preferable; it's an excellent selling point for prospective buyers.

* Can repairs be performed at any repair shop? Some extended auto warranties stipulate that repairs must be performed at the dealership from which the warranty was purchased; this can prove limiting and inconvenient. It's best to opt for a warranty that, at the very least, gives you more than one service facility to choose from. You'll appreciate this should the vehicle ever need service while you're on a road trip, miles away from home.

* What exactly is covered? Know what's covered--and what's not covered--by the extended warranty you're considering. Does the service contract cover breakdown as well as wear and tear? Under a "breakdown" warranty, coverage is extended only to parts that break. Such a policy can prove less inclusive than is desirable, since not all parts fail due to breakage. Some need to be replaced because they've worn down over a period of time; a "wear-and-tear" warranty extends coverage to worn-down parts in need of replacement. Additionally, some "entry level" contracts don't cover ABS brakes, so if your vehicle has this feature, you should consider upgrading to this level. And overheating--regardless of its cause--isn't covered in many warranties. Thus, if overheating occurred due to problems with an expensive part such as your radiator, you'd be stuck with a hefty repair bill. Before committing to a warranty, take the time to fully explore the ins and outs of its coverage implications. The distinctions between the various plans might seem slight, but they can prove quite important.

* Is a cash layout required for repairs? Some extended warranties require that you pay the bill, then send the receipt in and wait for reimbursement; in many cases, months elapse before you get your money back. Ideally, you'll want a warranty that pays the dealership.

Electric Motor Conversion Guides - DIY Electric Car From Your Home Garage

by Will Yap

Most people nowadays are considering doing an electric car motor conversion. This is because of the rising fuel prices that inflated their car gasoline expense bill. With most household having more than one car, gasoline expenses have become a major issue. Unfortunately, sending a car to a professional garage to be retrofitted into an Electric Vehicle (EV) will cost more than $4000. The investment is too high for most car owners. An alternative is to do an electric car motor conversion via a Do It Yourself (DIY) project from home.

To initiate a DIY electric car conversion project from home is not a difficult process. As long as you have the necessary tools and workspace, you can do the retrofitting yourself. What you will need is a good EV conversion guide to assist you.

The idea of electric vehicle conversion is to replace the internal combustion engine with an electric motor. Without the engine, all its associated components such as gas tank, fuel line and radiator is also removed. This will create a lot of free space where a batteries rack can be installed. A series of lead acid batteries will supply the power to the electric motor. To control the speed of the EV, a variable resistant is attached between the batteries and the electric motor. It will act as the accelerator paddle of the car.

To retrofit a car to run on electric is definitely cost effective. If is even cheaper if you can spend some time sourcing for second hand electric motor and batteries. With gasoline prices expected to go higher, any solution that can cut fuel cost would be a blessing.

Chevy ZR1 - One of the Fastest Made Cars Ever

by Frank Collins

The most powerful production car made is the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Moreover, it is American-made and is able to beat Ferrari's and Lamborghinis. This $105,000, 2009 Corvette has a 638-horsepower motor which gives off an aura to those around it. The zero-to-60 time achieved in 3.4 seconds beats the $1 million Ferrari Enzo. The Vette's rear brakes are similar to those on a $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron. Many onlookers do not often know the performance because it resembles its' humbler regular coupe version. However, once you drive it, you will know the difference right away. It is a super exotic car that masks itself with Chevy's bodywork.

Besides it being very recognizable, not much is shared with its basic cousin unless it is the interior, engine block and springs. Most noticeably, is the supercharger on the hood. On the outside, the ZR1 utilizes the 2006 Z06 body casing with even more light weight aluminum and high-tech body construction. The Z06 has a standard steel and fiberglass body. To compensate for the added weight from the supercharger, larger wheels and upgraded brakes, the roof is made of carbon-fiber material. Although, the weight distribution is better than that of the Lamborghini Murclielago and the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

Though the whole ZR1 concept seems to drive infinite without stopping, it is surely does stop from the huge Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes decrease speed as if they were rewinding a tape. So is the ZR1 the best thing besides apple pie? Well, of course not. It really deserves an interior design compatible with a $100,000 car, mainly one without a cheap chevy model's steering wheel. By having 638 horsepower most who drive it need to try and let it run freely .The all new herculean ZR1 is considered the more beguiling because it is so refined -- a quality few people associate with Corvettes. Though not perfect, the ZR1 is the most perfect 'Vette yet, and everyone can get behind that.

Maintain your car and save money

by Isla Campell

Regular maintenance of your car is important both for road safety and resale reasons, but it can be a costly business, and everyone is interested in finding out more about how they can reduce this cost. As it goes, proper maintenance is the best way to ensure you car runs smoothly and has a longer life span.

As the old saying goes, prevention is better than cure. And you can save money and prolong your car's working capacity, if you take the time to keep on top of some of the simpler tasks such as oil changes, wiper maintenance and regular check ups at your local garage.

Furthermore, simple maintenance such as regular cleaning can prevent corrosion caused by mud and dust that builds up and sticks to the body of the vehicle. The most suitable liquids and spare parts for your vehicle can be found in the car manual; however, it is amazing the number of people who don't bother to consult this important book.

Also, regular checking of your car tyres and brakes will bring to your attention straight away any potential problems. And, check your tyre pressure at regular intervals as underinflated tyres increase fuel consumption. Therefore, it is best to have worn tyres replaced in good time to prevent unnecessary damage to the wheel.

It is therefore good to know that there is advice and guidance available from professionals, so performing some of the essentials yourself should not prove to be a major problem. And, some helpful things you can do which will mean avoiding the cost of having to use a mechanic include; using only original parts, checking the battery, coolant levels and spark plugs, as well as changing rubber drive belts and clogged air filters regularly.

It is also important to understand that rash or erratic driving is to be avoided and this can be damaging to your clutch, engine and brake pads, so try to keep things smooth and steady on the road. You don't have to be an expert to consider looking under the hood to take a look at the engine; consult the troubleshooting section of the manufacturer's handbook for potential issues and seek advice if something looks wrong.

Preventative maintenance is not terribly taxing and will save you from the hassle of premature repair costs and vehicle breakdowns. As such, breakdowns can be avoided with a little care and attention and of course, ensuring your car is covered with suitable UK car insurance in place.

However, from failing to give your vehicle the required level of attention could mean risking further inconvenience later on, particularly in terms of cost and hassle. But, tending to some of the simpler maintenance tasks can help you to avoid this scenario.

Concept of Tubeless Tyres

by Carazoo India

Car Tyres were invented long back when the process of vulcanization came into existence. Vulcanization is a process of curing rubber that is very beneficial when the rubber tyres deteriorate. After its introduction, it became the most essential part of an automotive. No car infact no vehicle can run without tyres.

Traditional tyres are those that have rubber tubes within them. Gradually, with the advent of technology and innovation, new types of car tyres came into picture. Among all the types, the most common tyres today are tubeless tyres. In India, though it has not taken much a hike but has become standard on premium and luxury cars.

Evolution

Till date the tube type car tyres that the industry had had a major drawback and that was the bursting of the inner tube. Those are made of an outer rubber tube with a butyl rubber tube within. Air is filled inside the inner tube to maintain the level of friction between the wheel and the road. Though butyl is a good source for permeation of air, a slight damage or prick in the tube, causes the air to leak, eventually resulting in a punctured tyre. This disadvantage of traditional tyres lead to the evolution of tubeless tyre, a kind of tyre that could avoid the use of inner tube and make the drive more reliable.

Structure

The basic concept behind the structure of tubeless tyres is the absence of tubes within them. The external structure is the same as the older types but the inner structure differs.

Instead of the inner butyl tube present in the traditional tyres, tubeless tyres are solely filled with air. To seal the air inside the tyre, the inner wall is lined with an airtight and impermeable membrane composed of materials like halo butyly/chloro-butyl. Butyl lining helps reduce air permeation.

Advantage

The key benefits of tubeless tyres are that it allows cooler running and even if it gets punctured it can drive the car to a substantial distance without any jerks and inconvenience.

Lighter weight of the tubeless tyre also adds worth to its usage because lighter the weight more is the fuel efficiency. Furthermore, tubeless tyres requires less balance weight, have better heat dissipation, and even have much of cost saving factors as no tube is required. Tubeless tyres also require less tyre care and maintenance.

Difference in Tubeless and Traditional

The key difference between the two types of tyres is the construction. In traditional tyres there is an inner tube sealing the air component whereas in tubeless there is only a butyl lining on the inner wall to retain air.

In case of tube tyre, there is an instant leakage of air in case of puncture and the car gives a sudden jerk. On the other hand, when the car has tubeless tyres, loss of air is comparatively much slower and can ride to an appreciable distance without delivering any kind of jerks.

Find the best discounted new car prices from official dealers

by Victoria McQuade

With 1,000's of new car prices on our system let MyCarQuotes.co.uk do the leg work and save you money

Most people would agree that the safest place to buy a new car is from a main dealership. However, most official dealerships do not openly advertise their best possible discounts; these are discretionary and vary dramatically across the country. www.MyCarQuotes.co.uk is a free service which can save you £1,000's off the recommended retail price of a new car. With MyCarQuotes all the time-consuming phone calls and visits to individual dealers to gather costs are avoided, as multiple prices from its network of authorised dealers can be compared instantly, online.

"Unsurprisingly in todays economic climate there are significant discounts to be found on new cars, but with around 5,500 dealers out there how do customers locate the best deal?" said Andrew Yell, Founder of MyCarQuotes.co.uk

With MyCarQuotes, real-time discounted dealer prices can be viewed on a wide range of popular new cars from manufacturers such as Toyota, Peugeot, Renault, Vauxhall, Hyundai, Fiat, Nissan , Volvo and Mercedes, and the savings can be huge. Recent* deals included: a Ford Ka available for under £5,000; a brand new Audi A3 discounted by £2,000 to £14,342; and at the top end of the market, a £13,830 saving for a new Volkswagen Touareg V10 Altitude, available at £45,000.

MyCarQuotes does not disclose the identity of the dealer until the customer enquiry is passed through to them, which encourages our network of official, franchised dealers to offer their best possible discounts on new cars. By visiting www.MyCarQuotes.co.uk, the consumer can immediately access and compare new car prices available nationwide. Research by search engine Google shows that 80% of people intending to buy a new car use the Internet to try and locate the best possible deal, because increasingly this is not necessary found at their local dealer. By opening up the market we enable consumers to not only save time and money but ultimately have more choice over the price they pay for a new car." Yell concluded.

Part-exchange is often a key factor for customers buying a new car. MyCarQuotes offers an additional online service which will make you an offer for your current vehicle; it is independent to, and in addition to any offer from the dealer supplying your discounted new car quote. This service is provided to help customers save as much money as possible, resulting in the lowest cost of change.

*Discounted deals change on a regular basis

Mitsubishi Galant Likely To Be Retired At Life Cycle's End

by Matthew C. Keegan

The midsize car market is a brutal segment in the automotive industry, one that is dominated by the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord with both the Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Fusion also making a strong showing. Virtually every automaker is represented in this segment, consisting of over twenty different models for consumers to choose from.

With such a crowded field, some models are getting squeezed more than others, putting pressure on automakers to pour money into updating one or more entries, and taking resources away from other products.

Mitsubishi, who has long fielded a midsize model of its own, the Galant, will likely depart this segment when the ninth (and current) generation Galant ages out in four years. Built at the company's sole U.S. Plant in Normal, Illinois, the Galant along with the Endeavor and Eclipse contributed only 80,000 sales for Mitsubishi for the most recent model year just ended. The plant's capacity is 240,000 vehicles but only needs to produce 100,000 units annually in order to turn a profit.

Falling short by 20,000 units, Mitsubishi is looking to replace the Galant with a better selling model, perhaps its compact Lancer or its small Outlander SUV, maybe both. Both vehicles could be built in the US with excess capacity shipped overseas.

Mitsubishi recently completed an agreement with the United Auto Workers to keep the plant open for at least four more years in exchange for employee concessions. A move to smaller, more desirable vehicles could ensure that the plant's life is extended well beyond that time frame.

To help maintain product build, Mitsubishi has begun to export the Galant and Endeavor, but isn't seeing that much success. Like so many other automakers stuck with excess capacity, shipping products abroad is being a much more competitive undertaking, one that is falling far short of expectations.

For consumers, finding a great deal on most any midsize car is easy to do thanks to heated competition. The Hyundai Sonata, Pontiac G6, Chrysler Sebring, and Buick LaCrosse have all been heavily discounted this year, making the midsize market a car buying extravaganza for savvy shoppers.
